અષાઢ મહિનાની પૂર્ણિમાને ગુરૂ પૂર્ણિમા તરીકે ઉજવવામાં આવે છે. આ દિવસે ગુરૂની પૂજાનું ખાસ મહત્વ છે. આપણા દેશમાં આ તહેવાર ખૂબ જ શ્રધ્ધા અને ભાવથી ઉજવવામાં આવે છે. પ્રાચીન સમયમાં જ્યારે વિદ્યાર્થી ગુરૂના આશ્રમમાં નિ:શુલ્ક શિક્ષા મેળવતા હતાં, ત્યારે આ દિવસે ‍શિષ્‍ય શ્રધ્ધાભાવથી પ્રેરિત થઈને પોતાના ગુરૂનુ પૂજન કરીને તેમને શક્તિ મુજબ દક્ષિણા આપીને ધન્ય-ધન્ય થઈ જતો હતો. આમ તો ધણાં ગુરૂ થયા છે, પરંતુ વ્યાસ ઋષિ, જે ચારો વેદોના પ્રથમ વ્યાખ્યાતા હતા તેમની આજના દિવસે પૂજા થાય છે. વેદોનું જ્ઞાન આપનારા વ્યાસજી જ છે, તેથી તે આદિગુરૂ કહેવાય છે. અને માટેજ ગુરૂપૂર્ણિમાને વ્યાસ પૂર્ણિમા પણ કહેવામાં આવે છે. તેમની યાદને તાજી રાખવા માટે આપણે પોત-પોતાના ગુરૂઓને વ્યાસજીનાં અંશ માની તેમની ભક્તિથી પૂજા-અર્ચના કરવી જોઈએ.

આ દિવસે ફક્ત ગુરૂ (શિક્ષક) જ નહી, પરંતુ માતા-પિતા, મોટા ભાઈ-બહેન વગેરેની પણ પૂજા કરવાનું કહેવાયુ છે.

આ દિવસે વસ્ત્ર, ફળ, ફૂલ અને માળા અર્પણ કરીને ગુરૂને પ્રસન્ન કરી તેમના આશીર્વાદ મેળવવા જોઈએ. કારણકે ગુરૂનો આશીર્વાદ જ વિદ્યાર્થીને માટે કલ્યાણકારી અને જ્ઞાનવર્ધક હોય છે. વ્યાસજી દ્વારા રચિત ગ્રંથોનું અધ્યયન અને મનન કરીને તેમના ઉપદેશોનું પાલન કરવું જોઈએ.

આ તહેવારને શ્રધ્ધાથી મનાવવો જોઈએ, અંધવિશ્વાસોના આધાર પર નહી.

ગુરૂ બ્રહ્મા, ગુરૂ વિષ્ણુ, ગુરૂ દેવો મહેશ્વરા

ગુરૂ સાક્ષાત પરબ્રહ્મ, તસ્મૈ શ્રી ગુરૂદેવ નમ:

ગુરુ પ્રવેશ દ્રાર છે અને એકવાર અંદર ગયા પછી બધુ ગુરૂની દ્રષ્ટિથી જોવામાં આવે છે ગુરૂના સાનિધ્યને માણવું જોઈએ. તેમને સંસારનો અંશ ન બનાવો. કારણકે એકવાર ગુરૂને સંસારનો અંશ બનાવ્યા પછી આપણામાં બધી પ્રિય અપ્રિય ભાવનાઓ જાગે છે. આપણે ગુરૂ સાથે ભાવનાત્મક રૂપથી જોડાઈ જઈએ છીએ. 'તેમણે આવુ કહ્યું' અને 'તેમને આવું ન કહ્યુ' , 'પેલો તેમનો વધુ પ્રિય છે, હું નથી' વગેરે.

તમે ગુરૂ હોવા છતાં ગુરૂના સાનિધ્યનો અનુભવ ન કરી શકો તો તે માટે તમે જ જવાબદાર છો. કારણકે તમારું મન, તમારી ધારણાઓ અને તમારા અહંકારના કારણે જ તમે તમારી મહત્વપૂર્ણ વાતો ગુરૂને કહી શકતાં નથી. તમે ફક્ત 'કેમ છો ? , બધુ કેવું ચાલી રહ્યું છે ? આવી નિયમિત વાતો જ ગુરૂ સાથે કરતાં હોય અને તેમની નિકટતાનો અનુભવ ન કરી શકો તો તમને ગુરૂની જરૂર જ શુ છે ?

એવા કેટલાય શિષ્યોના ઉદાહરણો છે, જે પોતાના ગુરૂની સેવામાં બધું સમર્પિત કરી દેતાં હતા.

- મર્યાદા પુરૂષોત્તમ શ્રી રામ પોતાના શિક્ષાગુરૂ વિશ્વામિત્રની પાસે બહુ સંયમ, વિનય અને વિવેકથી રહેતા હતા.

- આરુણિને ગુરૂની કૃપાથી બધા વેદ, શાસ્ત્ર, પુરાણ વગેરે વાંચ્યા વગર જ આવડી ગયા હતા. જે વિદ્યા ગુરૂની સેવા અને કૃપાથી આવડે છે તે જ વિદ્યા સફળ થાય છે.

- એકલવ્ય એ દ્રોણચાર્યને ગુરૂ માની લીધા હતા, જ્યારે દ્રોણચાર્યએ તેમને શિક્ષા આપવાની ના પાડી ત્યારે તેણે તેમની માટીની મૂર્તિ બનાવીને સાચી શ્રધ્ધાથી શિક્ષા ગ્રહણ કરી તો તેઓ ધનુર્વિદ્યામાં નિપુર્ણ થઈ ગયા.

- સંત કબીરજીએ રામાનંદજીને ગુરૂ માની લીધા હતા. પણ તેઓ જાણતા હતા કે રામાનંદજી જાણી-જોઈને એક વણકરના છોકરાને તો શિષ્ય નહી બનાવે. માટે કબીરજી એક દિવસ વહેલી સવારે પંચગંગાનાં ઘાટની સીડીયો પર જ ઉંધી ગયા. રોજની જેમ સ્વામી રામાનંદજી જ્યારે સ્નાન કરવા આવ્યા તો તેમનો પગ સીડી પર નિંદર કરી રહેલા કબીરની છાતી પર પડ્યો, અને તેઓ રામ-રામ બોલી ઉઠ્યા. કબીરજી એ તેને જ ગુરૂ મંત્ર માની લીધો અને ભવસાગર તરી ગયા.

આવા તો ધણા ગુરૂભક્તો હતા. જેમણે પોતાના ગુરૂની સેવામાં જ સાચુ સુખ જાણ્યું અને તેઓ ગુરૂના આશીર્વાદથી અમર થઈ ગયા.

ગુરૂ દક્ષિણા - સામાન્ય રીતે ગુરૂ દક્ષિણાનો મતલબ ઈનામ ના રુપમાં લેવામાં આવે છે. પરંતુ તેનો અર્થ આનાથી વધુ વ્યાપક છે. સાચી ગુરૂ દક્ષિણા એ જ છે કે તમે તમારાં ગુરૂ દ્વારા મેળવેલી વિદ્યા અને જ્ઞાનનો પ્રચાર કરો. અને તેનો સાચો ઉપયોગ કરી, લોકોનું ભલું કરો. ગુરૂદક્ષિણા ગુરૂ પ્રત્યે સમ્માન અને સમર્પણ ભાવ બતાવે છે.

ગુરૂ એ શિષ્ય પાસેથી ગુરૂ દક્ષિણા લે છે જે શિષ્યની સમ્પૂર્ણતામાં આવી જાય છે અર્થાત જ્યારે શિષ્ય ખુદ ગુરૂ બનવાને લાયક બની જાય છે. ગુરૂનું સંપૂર્ણ જીવન શિષ્યને યોગ્ય બનાવવામાં લાગી જાય છે, આથી જ્યારે શિષ્ય શિક્ષા ગ્રહણ કરીને ઘરે જાય છે તો તેને ગુરૂદક્ષિણા આપવી પડે છે. ગુરૂદક્ષિણાનો મતલબ ફક્ત ધનદૌલત જ નથી.
